Swamp ecosystems are regaining public attention after long periods of neglect and degradation due to their potential role in addressing climate change. Lycopodium, regarded as a "living fossil," retains the primitive structures of the now extinct Asteroxylon, which dates back over 400 million years. Although it has a rather inconspicuous appearance and faces declining numbers in Germany due to climate change, the plant still exists in small, localized swamp environments. The artwork Swamping juxtaposes these living plants with their fossilized counterparts, transcending the traditional dichotomy between science and art. It blurs the boundaries of time and space, proposing a worldview that interweaves multiple species and perspectives while reorienting the relationships and structures within existing systems.
